Yueyang (岳阳), Hunan Province

We did a too-short visit of the Yueyang Municipal Museum, as the afternoon was running out of time.

Municipal museums, like provincial ones, are always free. Please note that all free museums in China are closed on Mondays.

We are only showing you the section panels from the museum. It’s just to show you that they really cover a lot of ground. Each panel is usually in English along with the Chinese, and some of them even have some English on the objects, presentations, etcetera. Even if you don’t know Chinese, using these section panels, with all the videos, dioramas, paintings, objects, displays, sculptures and everything else, you can get a really good idea about what’s going on and learn a lot. Visuals really are worth a thousand words!

We seriously encourage anybody who comes to China to always go to the provincial museum if you’re in the provincial capital, and then also go to the municipal museum there, as well as non-provincial towns, if you have time. The Chinese put massive effort, time and money in their museums, since they are HUGELY popular with the people. China’s museums are a reflection of what the citizens know, think and feel, thus they really are a window into their minds, along with their amazing 5,000 year civilization.
