Naturally, with its heart-shaped Jushan island, Dongting Lake is considered romantic among the people.

Dongting Lake is a major rest stop for Asian migratory birds.

The whole area is full of low mountains, which the communists used to give Chiang Kai-Shek and his KMT fits during the world’s longest civil war. Thirty-nine million Chinese citizens were martyred to win liberation from the Japanese, Chinese and Western (90% English, American and French) fascists, kicking them all out of the country in 1949.
