My introduction
No shortage of subtitled Chinese movies on YouTube
Over the years, I have collected about 150 Chinese movies of all different styles and genres, almost all of them with either English or French subtitles, because I’m worried one day that they’ll disappear off YouTube.
In the meantime, you don’t have to download them. If you get them on YouTube, where there are hundreds and hundreds of Sino-films. Below, I’ve got four historical war movies for you to get started, all with hardwired English subtitles.
When you get on YouTube, search Chinese + (romantic) comedies, tragedies, animation, history, drama, fantasy, thrillers, horror, kung-fu, crime, police, bank heist, etc. Chinese documentaries are some of the best in the world. Make sure they have subtitles or closed captions.
Chinese cinema is humongo
You will be amazed how big China’s cinema industry is. Beijing is the New Hollywood. With 1.4 billion domestic moviegoers, not to mention increasing international popularity, it’s no wonder. Chinese movies are conquering silver screens around the world. Films like Ne Zha, Three Body Problem, Wandering Earth and Battle at Changjin Lake have gained huge global followings, making their actors stars, while raking in billions of dollars/euros/RMB.
In between the Mainland and the West, there are many great Taiwanese and Hong Kong flicks, straddling Beijing and Hollywood styles. Of course, Hong Kong is the king of bahookie-kicking kung-fu battles and Chinese Mafia-cop thrillers.
There’s something about Chinese movies…
Chinese cinema is different. There’s just something about Chinese movies that is different. They’re more realistic. They’re more human, more emotional. They’re less contrived. Even the comedies and romcoms are different, not just dramatic themes.
Lighthearted love stories are different. First off, there is no pornography. There’s no gratuitous sex or cussing. There’s no nudity (except in some earlier 1980s-1990s productions, which was comparatively quite modest). Thus, anybody can watch them and not be worried about tittytainment, vulgar humor and trashy sex scenes.
Chinese TV is famous for having many long-running movie series, 20-50 installments, each 40 minutes long. They are super-sized cinema that take the time to really dig into the story plots, details and roles portrayed. They are incredibly popular year-in and year-out.
Chinese cinema has everything that Judeo-Hollywood has and I’m telling you, it’s just better, more entertaining and meaningful to watch. Many people who start watching Chinese movies will tell you that that’s all they watch now. Judeo-Hollywood has become very formulaic, repetitive, and not willing to take many chances on fresh ideas. Hollywood epitomizes S-T-A-L-E. Think Spider Man 12, Grand Theft Auto 11 and bisexual Superman 10. Hollywood has become so Woke-Talmudized that it has lost a lot of its appeal over the years for many of the world’s moviegoers (https://radiosinoland.com/2025/01/23/judaism/).
Judeo-Hollywood not only has serious Chinese competition, but many other countries have thriving national cinema industries, tailored to the citizens’ tastes and in their native tongues. Not just India, France, Spain, Russia, Japan, etc. but also in the Global South: Egypt, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, Thailand and many more. In these socially conservative countries, Talmud-Wokeism and tittytainment are seriously frowned upon and like China, Hollywood tripe has to be censored and edited to make its prurient, vulgar fare acceptable for local tastes. That’s a sad statement, but true.

Volunteer Army: Bloodshed Peace “is the second installment of the” Korean War Trilogy “, posted below
This trilogy is directed by renowned director Chen Kaige and is collectively known as the ‘Volunteer Army’ series. The specific names and release plans of the trilogy are as follows:
- Part 1: The Volunteers: To Fight or Not to Fight (志愿军：雄兵出击) [unfortunately, YouTube has a paywall for this one].
Released : September 28, 2023 (China).
Plot: It mainly tells the story of the crucial battles from the decision to send troops to the first Korean War, including the “Battle of Two Water Caves” and the “Bloody Battle of Songgu Peak”. - Part 2: Volunteer Army: Bloodshed Peace (志愿军：浴血和平)
Expected release : National Day holiday in 2024 (exact date to be determined).
Plot: According to publicly available information, the second installment will focus on the strategic stalemate phase in the later stages of the Korean War. The core plot is likely to revolve around the ‘Battle of Shangganling’ and may involve arduous battles in the later stages of the war to negotiate for peace. - Part 3: Volunteer Army: Battle of Fate (tentative title) (志愿军：命运之战)
Expected release : 2025.
Plot: It will tell the final stage of the war, including the decisive Battle of Jincheng, and ultimately the signing of the ceasefire agreement.
In summary, “Volunteer Army: Bloodshed Peace” is an unreleased war film with a main theme. It is the second installment in director Chen Kaige’s grand trilogy, with the theme of “upholding faith in fierce battles and ultimately winning peace for the country and the people”.

This movie accurately reflect how the US initiated ongoing violence at time of peace negotiations with China during the Korean war ❗leading to the final battle at 上甘岭 where US led 17 nations coalition badly defeated and finally decided to make peace.
Till this day at the US West Point military academy where army officials, generals are trained, on the wall of the main entrance, the map of this battle ground are displayed and questions were asked why their superior fire powers and number of soldiers involved failed to win❗
