This story is interesting because in 2020, I saw a piece about how Huawei had invented a new graphene battery, published it, and then found out several days later that it was a spoof. Huawei came out and officially announced that it was not true and I pulled my announcement.
Graphene batteries are game changers, since they can reduce charging time, the need for and eventually replace expensive lithium.
Well, six years later and it’s apparently true.
This is from a Western source, the Advanced Carbons Council. which would inherently tend to be biased against Chinese technology. But, they are saying that it’s true, and I have not seen any retractions.
Since this is a real official organization that came out with it, I am pleased to try it again for the second time!

Chinese researchers and battery manufacturers (such as CATL and GAC) have developed prototypes for graphene-enhanced batteries that charge in under five minutes, last up to four times longer than traditional lithium-ion, and rely on graphene’s thermal stability to prevent fires.
- 5-Minute Charging: Graphene is an incredibly conductive carbon material. Electrons can move through its lattice roughly 100 times faster than through copper, drastically reducing the time required to pump energy into the cell. [1, 2]
- 4x Lifespan: Traditional lithium-ion batteries usually degrade after 800 to 1,200 charge cycles. Tests on these new graphene prototypes show they can sustain roughly 3,500 full charge cycles while retaining over 90% of their capacity. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Fire Resistance: Graphene possesses high thermal stability. Unlike standard lithium-ion cells that can suffer from thermal runaway (overheating and catching fire), these batteries remain cool and stable even under extreme stress. [1, 2, 3, 4]
